Fuzzy Search
BackTick uses a powerful Fuzzy Search algorithm (powered by Fuse.js).
- Typos are okay: Searching for "youtub" will still find "YouTube"
- Context: Searches against both the Tab Title and the URL
- Instant: Results update as you type
Search Modes (Advanced)
Power users can restrict the search scope using "Prefixes". Type the letter followed by a Space.
Group Mode (g )
- Syntax: Type
gthen Space - Behavior: The grid filters to show ONLY your Tab Groups
- Action: Press Enter on a group to focus its window. Press Tab to open the Group Menu.
Media Mode (m )
- Syntax: Type
mthen Space - Behavior: Shows ONLY tabs that are currently playing audio or have played audio recently
- Use Case: Quickly find that one tab playing annoying background music
Tab Mode (t )
- Syntax: Type
tthen Space - Behavior: Forces a list of ALL individual tabs, ignoring any "De-Clutter" settings
- Use Case: Finding a specific tab that is hidden inside a group
💡 Pro Tip
Combine search modes with fuzzy search! Type g github to find a Tab Group with "GitHub" in its name.
Customizing Shortcuts
To change the default keyboard shortcuts:
- Open Chrome and navigate to
chrome://extensions/shortcuts - Find "BackTick" in the list
- Click the input field next to any command
- Press your desired key combination (e.g., Ctrl + Space)
