The Interface

The Grid View (Default)

Designed for spatial memory.

Cards

Each tab is represented as a large card with its favicon and title clearly visible.

Smart Columns

The grid automatically adjusts between 2 to 6 columns based on your screen width (Responsive Design). This ensures optimal use of space on any monitor.

Visual Cues

  • Blue Border: The currently selected item
  • Speaker Icon 🔊: Indicates audio is playing (click to mute)
  • Color Bar: Indicates the tab belongs to a specific Tab Group

The List View

Designed for information density.

  • Accessed via Options (click the gear icon)
  • Displays tabs in a compact vertical list
  • Best for reading long page titles or URLs
  • Shows more tabs at once without scrolling
💡 Pro Tip

Use Grid View when you rely on visual recognition (favicons, colors). Use List View when you need to see full titles or manage many tabs quickly.

The Status Bar (Tips)

Located at the bottom of the overlay.

  • Cycles through "Training Wheel" tips to teach you hidden features
  • Example: "Type 'g' then Space to search only your Groups"
  • Can be disabled in Options if you prefer a cleaner look

Fallback Popup

Chrome Security Policy blocks extensions from running on certain pages (Chrome Web Store, chrome:// pages). When this happens, BackTick automatically launches a Fallback Popup window.

  • Looks slightly different from the overlay
  • Functions identically
  • Opens as a separate window for full tab management
