BackTick gives you DJ-level control over your browser audio.
Volume Boosting (Up to 600%)
Standard Chrome volume controls stop at 100%. BackTick uses the Web Audio API(AudioContext) to amplify the signal beyond browser limits.
How to Use
- Select a tab with audio playing
- Hold Ctrl
- Press ↑ (Up Arrow) to boost volume
- Press ↓ (Down Arrow) to reduce
Visual Feedback
- A volume slider appears on the card
- If you go above 100%, the bar turns Red to indicate "Boost Mode"
⚠️ Warning
High boost levels can cause audio distortion (clipping). Use responsibly. If audio sounds crackly, reduce the boost level.
Instant Mute
Quickly silence any tab:
- Mouse: Click the small Speaker icon 🔊 on the tab card
- Keyboard: Open the Sub-Menu (Tab) → Select "Mute"
- Visual: The icon changes to a muted speaker 🔇
Finding Audio Tabs
Use Media Mode to quickly find tabs playing audio:
- Open BackTick with Alt + Q
- Type
mfollowed by Space - The view filters to show only tabs with audio
Volume Visibility Options
In Options, you can control when volume sliders appear:
- Always: Sliders are always visible on cards (good for audio-heavy workflows)
- Hover: Clean look, sliders only appear when mouse hovers over a card
Troubleshooting
"Volume Boost isn't working on YouTube"
Cause: AudioContext restrictions
The page must have active audio playing for the script to hook into the stream. Try pausing and playing the video once to initialize the booster.
